I have been there. Those days just happen sometimes.
However, when we stay on top of our game and deep condition, detangle gently, comb out and don't touch so much, we do just fine.
A lot of people are under the impression that curly hair is effortless, you wake up and it's just this amazingly perfectly sculpted, spiraled art. Nope. Most of us have to cry through combing each day, heck I have had days where I am like "forget it", I am too unnerved to take one more hurtful tangle. So I throw it into a braid or bun.
I recently received some shampoo bars from a wonderful couple who runs a small business called Mystic Water Soap.
While visiting my mother I visited their booth at a farmer's market in Maryland. They were very knowledgeable and super nice!
Needless to say I grabbed some things and love them all. I was sent the shampoo bars and I am mostly in LOVE with the argan oil one. It has olive oil, shea, lavender, rosemary, orange peel, argan oil and it smells great and moisturizes my hair really well.
I also did what the owner had recommended which was to restore your hair PH by rinsing with vinegar. I did this on the midway to ends and it was much easier to detangle. I have been a fan of vinegar rinses for quite sometime.
SO. Onto that styling!
After shampooing (even the ends! the argan oil helps keep it soft), I used a vinegar rinse (3 tbsp. acv in 1/2 c water) and rinsed with cold water.
I carefully combed out my hair with a wooden bristled brush. (apply your favorite gel or mousse here if you wish).
I then took section and twisted them, then around my finger. After that I scrunched them up toward my scalp and gently let them down.
You will start to look like you have dreads sort of. Do your best not to touch them at all. Let your hair air dry, you may also pin them up . After they are COMPLETELY dry turn your head upside down, again you may apply mousse, gel or a natural hairspray. I did not use any products here just the shampoo bar and my hands!
After turning upside down, finer comb or wide-tooth comb out your locks. SOFT right?! OMG I am in love♥
